Research Engineer for Software Engineering for Distributed Cyber-Pysical Systems (f/m/div.)

Aufgaben

In the future cyber-physical systems (CPS) will be increasingly distributed across a device-edge-cloud continuum which connects heterogeneous compute platforms (from embedded devices over the edge to the cloud). These software intensive distributed cyber-physical systems enable new functionalities across several domains, like software-defined car, the factory of the future, the industrial internet of things and many others.

Developing, designing and implementing such complex distributed systems with a large proportion of software with strong dependencies on the systems context is challenging. To bring this vision of distributed cyber-physical systems to life we are looking for a research engineer in the field of software engineering who is eager to design, architect and develop together with our international research team the necessary components for a reliable distributed system platform.

Are you that motivated researcher, with an enthusiasm for distributed systems and a proven research background in software and systems engineering/architecture, in a relevant application domain such as Industrial Automation, Modern Automotive Systems and/or Robotics?

  • Become a part of our team and work as a researcher in our unique research ecosystem. Together with the team you are shaping research projects internally and externally.
  • You develop new innovative concepts and approaches and implement selected aspects for demonstration as well as validation purposes.
  • Furtermore, you build up and foster cross-boundary networks with key players within business units, corporate research as well as key universities.
  • Ensuring that the research results are product-relevant and effective to be used is also part of your work.
  • With your background, you support us building safe as well as reliable distributed systems, combining state-of-the art IT technologies, connected vehicle approaches and paradigms with automotive or industrial automation systems.
  • Also, you proactively share knowledge and foster an open technical/scientific exchange as well as externally, by actively contributing to the scientific environment.
  • Last but not least, you identify relevant trends as well as developments and initiate suitable internal activities as needed.

Profil

  • Education: excellent studies (PhD) in the field of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Software Architecture or comparable
  • Experience and Knowledge:
    • academic background in computer science and a practical "hands-on" attitude
    • proven track record in several of the following areas: software/system architecture, software engineering, distributed systems or real-time systems
    • practical knowledge in implementations and programming
    • prior experience with automotive or industrial applications is a plus
  • Personality and Working Practice: positive, highly motivated and innovative team player who is eager to learn new things and passionate about applied research
  • Enthusiasm: eager to develop novel concepts as well as ideas and to materialize them by means of proof-of-concept realizations
  • Languages: fluent in English (written and spoken), German is a plus
