Aufgaben

  • Your objective is to push the limits of miniaturized atomic magnetometers for the detection of weak bio-magnetic fields.
  • Furthermore your tasks will cover the whole research and development activities from identifying an optimal concept of an optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) based on alkali vapor cells via implementation and validation of this concept on an optical table setup up to the realization of a miniaturized demonstrator.
  • You will be able to verify the sensor performance in high-class laboratory environments, such as an existing magnetic shielded environment suitable for magnetoencephalography measurements.
  • The academic PhD supervision will be provided by an internationally renowned expert on optically pumped magnetometers.
  • You will have chances to present the results of your work in high impact peer-reviewed journals and at high-level conferences.
  • Not least you will join a team of scientists and engineers with deep and long year experience in the development of highly sensitive quantum sensors for magnetic field measurement.

Profil

  • Education: You have an excellent MSc degree in physics with a thesis prefereably in experimental atomic or quantum physics.
  • Personality: innovative, curious, and hands-on spirit
  • Working Practice: structured, result-orientated, and strong analytical skills
  • Experience and Knowledge: knowledge in quantum physics combined with practical experience on laboratory setups and typical equipment; experience with micro technologies and sensor design is beneficial
  • Languages: fluent in English (written and spoken), German is beneficial
